Midland Football Combination Premier Division
Highgate United 1 - 7 Southam United
Southam took full advantage of a weak Highgate
side and played themselves back into form with
a generally commanding, attacking display; the
only downside of the evening being the 60th
minute dismissal of skipper Fitzhugh for a thoroughly
unnecessary and unprofessional kick on an opponent
from behind.
Saints started brightly and had already missed
one gilt edged chance before Rob Brassington
scored a spectacular goal from the left in the
10th minute. 5 Minutes later a bright move between
Hanrahan and De-Voisey saw the latter's cross
headed by a defender straight to Tom Thacker
who buried the chance with aplomb.
Thacker made it 3 - 0 after 27 minutes with
another sharp finish following a good run by
James Harri.
Co-Manager, Paul Brassington, was playing in
goal in place of the injured Jason Pearcey and
was rarely troubled in the first period. He
was, however, beaten on 37 minutes when, following
a corner needlessly conceded by Fitzhugh, a
Highgate player rose unchallenged to head home
the resultant flag kick.
Thacker restored Southam's 3 goal advantage
5 minutes later with a powerful shot into the
roof of the net following more good work by
Harri. A first half hat trick then for a rejuvenated
striker.
Following the interval Southam strangely let
Highgate back into the game; the home side missing
a sitter on 58 minutes; Fitzhugh being deservedly
sent off 2 minutes later and discipline being
lost. The nerves and tempers were calmed though
after 72 minutes when a neat interchange of
passes between Ross Holtom and Harri sent Thacker
bursting through the middle to easily score.
Substitute Ian Macvarish scored two goals in
the last 7 minutes following assists by Thacker
and Hanrahan respectively to complete the victory.
Dan Cramp was immense for Saints throughout
and Calvin De-Voisey also played very well prior
to succumbing to injury on the hour mark.
Southam team (3
- 5 - 2): Paul Brassington; Wayne Britton, Neil
Austin, Aidrian Fitzhugh (Captain); Calvin De-Voisey
(sub Lee Constable 60 mins) , Chris Hanrahan,
Dan Cramp, Ross Holtom, Rob Brassington (sub

Harri (sub Ian Macvarish 72 mins). Sub Unused:
